3 Blogger Homes I Love

If you saw my Bloglovin account, you'd be amazed at the long list of blogs I follow daily. It keeps me busy. =) Well there are quite a few stylish bloggers that I follow, but these lady's interiors make me drool. These three really understand how to translate their fashionable style into their home's interior. Your home should be an extension of you. Surround yourself with colors, patterns and textures that you love.

I hope these spaces inspire you to create a home that truly represents your style.

Cynthia of SimplyCyn (aka Addicted2Etsy) is one of my favorite bloggers. I must get my daily dose of her style photos, shopping deals and Etsy finds. Her fashion sense is off the meter so there was no surprise when she posted photos of her apartment, that it was just as fabulous. I love the pops of color, and her blending of patterns and textiles. Plus, I envy that daylight, her space is so open and airy. Check out these awesome Before/After pics of her home here.

I recently came across the lovely Mina in the interior styling e-course we participated in. Her stylish abode is a beautiful mix of vintage and modern. I love the warmth of her space, she really has an eye for color and finding amazing accessories. Her blog Bohemian Vintage focuses on bringing inspiration, design ideas, product reviews and personal stories to thousands of readers each month. I love when a space has eye candy at every turn, there's so much goodness to take in! More of her home tour here.

This style maven shows you how to get a designer look for less. Who doesn't love a good deal? Sara of High Fashion 4 Less knows how to find them! Her blog is all about bargain hunting and she shares style photos of her finds from stores like HomeGoods, T.J.Maxx, Marshalls and Loehmann’s. Needless to say, her incredible style is carried over into her home. Every inch of her interior represents her fashionable, feminine style. I love the soft color palette and touches of bling. Old Bed, New Bed: Part #2

Back in January, I posted about my bed DIY makeover. I refinished my dark wood sleigh bed, and had the headboard reupholstered. I was amazed at how well it turned out. With just a little paint and fabric, I had a new bed for half the cost! Well I've finally completed my bedroom, and I wanted to share it with you all. Now that this process is over, I really understand how important it is to have a place in your home where you can truly relax. I can hardly drag myself out of my bedroom now!

Okay, here goes... [drumroll]

So what do you guys think? Please share!

By the way, I just completed Justina Blakeney's E-course, Interior Styling: The Fundamentals to Styling Your Space like a Pro. The two week course was AWESOME! It was a good refresher on the principles of interior styling, and I learned a ton of new techniques and tips too. Hopefully Justina will repeat the course soon, and if she does, you should definitely sign up!

Have a great week!

5 Tips to Remember When Decorating

Decorating can sometimes be a challenge, but if you keep these 5 tips in mind while shopping you'll be sure to create the space of your dreams.

1. Invest in the anchors of the room, the larger pieces of furniture that ground the space. Sofas, arm chairs, cabinets and bookshelves should be quality pieces that can stand the test of time. When the bones and structures of furniture are well-made, it will be a more cost effective investment. If you've inherited furniture or become bored with the style, have it reupholstered to refresh the look. Wood furniture can be refinished or painted to breathe new life.
2. Shop at flea markets, secondhand shops and antique stores for unique accessories. We all have our favorite department stores and designer collections, but some of my most coveted pieces I've found on overlooked shelves in thrift shops. These little treasures add a layer of personality and a lot of them are one-of-a-kinds you won't see anywhere else.
Keep your eyes open while travelling as well. Make it a point to bring home at least one keepsake to display in your home. Not only will it be a great conversation piece to add to your decor, it will bring global charm to your interior.
3. Resist the urge to match. I know buying a 3 piece bedroom set is easier, but fight it! A room is so much more interesting when the common thread is color, patterns or style. Be patient when decorating, take your time and find furnishings that work well together. Layer your room with different woods and metals, add depth with tones and shades. Don't be afraid to take chances. If it doesn't work, you can always change it.
4. Flooring can be easily forgotten, but it's so important. Like cufflinks to a suit or pearls to the little black dress, it's that last touch that completes the overall look. Polished concrete in industrial lofts or Moroccan rugs in bohemian style interiors are examples of how the flooring can finish the space. Flooring can also be used as the primary feature such as mosaic tiling in your bathroom or a decorative wood inlay in your foyer.
5. Good lighting is the best complement to your furniture. Have you ever noticed how many lighting fixtures are in your favorite hotel lobby? My guess is there are quite a few. They all serve a unique purpose and help set the overall mood of the space. For general lighting, the days of harsh fluorescent overheads are over. Instead, directional recessed lighting is a more pleasing way to accent architectural features or artwork. Add dimmers to really control the illumination. Use decorative table lamps to warm a living room or a chandelier to cast a glow on a wood dining table. Desk lamps add function to your office and a sconce next to your bed can illuminate a specific area for reading.

Let's not forget daylight. I am really against covering windows with blackout drapery unless it's unavoidable. If needed, shear drapery or bamboo shades can be used to shield excessive heat or glares. Let the natural light in if you're lucky enough to have good exposure. It instantly expands a room and gives an open and airy feeling to your home.

UPCOMING EVENT: Designer Sale!

One of my favorite resale shops in Dallas is The Rose Garden Upscale Store. You can find the most unique clothing there and the home decor is to die for! I always get myself in trouble when I visit. I often stop by to say hello to the owner Kelly Wiley and end up drooling over something each time. It never fails! This upcoming Saturday they're having a Designer Sale. Kelly has received a huge shipment of designer fashions. We're talking Armani, Versace, Hermès and more! This is going to be good.

The great thing about this lovely shop is proceeds benefit the 2000 Roses Foundation, Inc.
2000 Roses gives aid to women coming from prison, recovery and domestic violence. So come and shop with a purpose. I hope to see you there!

Happy Monday: It's April!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend. Wow, this year is really moving isn't it? For me it's just flying by and it's sure to be a busy first week of April. I saw this interior on Pinterest and it's so relaxing to me. It makes me want to just cuddle up in the corner of that sofa with a good book. That's my new goal for this month, to slow down, relax more and go back to the basics. I swear with all of this technology, actual reading and writing has been lost. I tried to write a check last week and it looked like a second grader wrote it. So, make a comfortable spot in your home to retreat to. Read a book, listen to some records or write in your journal. Let's make more time to enjoy the moment.
