Curio Cabinet Progress

I'm excited to say that I've made some progress with styling my curio. Remember the thrift store find I scored for 80 dollars?!! I'm still excited about that. =) Well to be honest, I've only made progress with the top of the cabinet but I'm happy with it so far. Most of my business these days is graphic design so I wanted to pay homage to that with some typography and graphic prints. I found these lovelies in the Bishop Arts District area of Dallas over the weekend.

Next up will be the shelf styling and a very cool DIY. If all goes well, I'll be sharing that
with you next week.

JCP + Jonathan Adler + Terence Conran

There's two new designer collaborations that I'm really excited about. JCP has teamed up with Jonathan Adler and Sir Terence Conran for two exciting collections filled with bright colors and geometric patterns. These are so lovely for the Spring. I'm going to have to drop by the store this week to check them out in person. JCP is really trying to turn things around and from the looks of it, they're on the right track.

A Plant for my Nightstand

Hi guys! I hope you had a great weekend. My weekends are back to being busy, busy. I'm not complaining because usually my weekends are dedicated to the work I really enjoy. Consulting with my small business design clients, hanging out with friends or just roaming around town discovering new places to share on the blog. This weekend I discovered Brumley Gardens. I purchased this lovely vase below at The Rose Garden and the owner, Kelly, suggested that I take it down the street to Brumley, choose a plant and they would actually pot it for me. Well fantastic!

One problem, I absolutely do not have a green thumb. The only thing I've ever kept alive for an extended amount of time was bamboo and from what I'm told, you pretty much can't kill bamboo. Eric, the associate that helped me was so patient and awesome. He educated me on the plants and we decided that a succulent may be the right choice for me. I chose the Serpent's Blue Chalk Fingers which needs ample light but only has to be watered roughly once a month. We have a winner!

I love how this little project turned out and I'm excited to love and care for my new plant. Who knows, just maybe I do have a green thumb!

Happy Monday!

Style like a Pro with Justina Blakeney

Seriously, can Justina Blakeney get any cooler? Well, yes she can.

Justina will be teaching her first online course: Interior Styling: The Fundamentals to styling your space like a pro. The class will be held from April 1st-12th and you can enroll now. The course will demonstrate how to style five key areas of your home to create a magazine-ready look using items you already own. Now get this...the student/s who styles the most successful spaces will be featured on her blog and shared with her 1.2 million followers on Pinterest. How cool is that?!

Plus, if you're a blogger, the class will also include interior photography tips from Laure Joliet. Laure will give expert tips to bloggers and decorators on how to improve their interior photography. I'm so looking forward to that!

Even if you're a design professional, I don't think you can ever learn too much. This class will be great for anyone looking to take their styling and photography skills to the next level. Hope to see you there!

Roshambo by Free People

I've mentioned before that I love video lookbooks. I'm kind of obsessed with them really. I'm a visual person so seeing a product in action will totally sell me more than a still image on a website or in a magazine. It seems companies are taking the video lookbook craze one step further and diving into short films. I came across Roshambo by Free People last week and I really can't stop watching it. For one, it's shot beautifully and two, it's a romantic tale staring my current favorite, Christopher Abbott from HBO's Girls. Oh and model Sheila Marquez is in it too. =) I'm loving this trend and I hope companies continue to think outside the box and introduce their products in new and exciting ways. Enjoy!

Actor B.D. Wong's Incredible Loft

It's Friday and thank goodness we made it y'all! For a little weekend inspiration, I wanted to share this beautiful space that belongs to actor, B.D. Wong. His profession is storytelling and every inch of his home in some way tells a story too. Once a Yiddish Theatre, it has been transformed into a warm, colorful, welcoming home filled with momentos and collections that reflect his personality. I love the idea of surrounding yourself with pieces from your past. He rescued a pew from the church where his parents wed and his grandmother's bed sits proudly in his guest room. I absolutely adore this space and it puts the fire in me to start collecting more. I think I'll get started this weekend. =)

Have a great one everyone. Get plenty of rest and have loads of fun!!

The Dress Form

I am completely obsessed with vintage dress forms right now. I love the feminine touch it adds to a space and it's perfect for those special pieces that should be on display. I'm still working on completing my bedroom but I've decided that it desperately needs a dress form. =) The search is on!

Designer Profile: Preston Bailey

If I ever have the opportunity to plan the fantasy event of my wildest dreams, the first person I would call would be Event and Wedding Designer, Preston Bailey. He truly can turn an empty space into your dream world filled with opulent floral arrangements and decor. Honestly, no one does it better. Where most would stop, he takes it ten steps further. Fully designing every inch and detail of a space. If you can dream it, he can translate it into reality.

I'm also a fan of Preston's blog. He gives very candid advice, industry tips and offers inspiration for planning events. I love this quote from his blog, it truly speaks to the essence of who he is.

George Bernard Shaw once said: “You see things and say, ‘Why?’
But I dream things that never were and say, ‘Why not?’

If you're a wedding or event professional, Preston Bailey offers an expert online course through Lovegevity's Wedding Planning Institute. Go here for details.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: Chesterfield

The classic Chesterfield sofa has typically been a statement piece for the traditional home. Named after the 4th Earl of Chesterfield, Philip Stanhope, the sofa was found in stately homes of the wealthy aristocracy during the 18th century. Fast forward to the present and the form of the Chesterfield has stood the test of time but now there's an array of colors, patterns and finishes to choose from.
Check out these eclectic takes on the timeless sofa.

Weekend Checklist

Hey all! I hope you're just as excited about the weekend as I am. This week was LONG wasn't it? Whew! So glad it's over and it's time for a little fun. Anyone have any good plans for the next few days? Please share! Wait...it's March! My how did February fly by. The weeks were long but the month was over in a flash. Spring is finally in the air! =)

1. Perusing // Stella Dallas is first on my list for the weekend. This is such a dreamy store, I feel instantly inspired by it. I love the pops of color and they have the most beautiful selection of pillows and throws. I'm looking for some items to brighten up my space for Spring and Summer.

2. Playing Dress Up // I've been invited to the Diamonds and Sneakers Gala benefiting the Trinity Chapter of the Links, Inc. youth program, SoSMAART (Set on Science, Math, the Arts, Aviation, Reading and Technology). This is going to be such a fun event wearing our formals and sneakers, plus it benefits such an important youth program here in Dallas. I'm really looking forward to it. Here's what I'm thinking below for my outfit. Not that I have any of this together! Talk about procrastination. Hopefully I can pull it together QUICK! Look out for pics on my Instagram.

3. Relaxing // At some point this weekend, my hope is to take a stack of magazines to my favorite coffee shop Ascension Coffee. I plan to sip and read to my heart's content! Mmmm....can't wait.

Have a great weekend everyone!
